On-line & In-person counseling for adults, adolescents, children, and families in Kentucky and Idaho.
Counseling is one of the greatest things we can do to take care of ourselves, our children and our family. From time to time, we all need help and that is perfectly normal and acceptable, especially right now when things in the world seem unsure and most Americans are finding themselves isolated and scared about what happens next.
We can't go it alone, and that is okay - I don't expect you to and neither should anyone else! It's PERFECTLY OKAY to ask for help and guidance when you need it. It's perfectly okay to want to talk to someone so you don't feel so alone.
With on-line counseling sessions using a secure telehealth platform, you are able to sit in the comfort of your own home and with the click of a button, start your counseling session. All you need is a phone, tablet or computer. It's that easy!
If you would prefer face-to-face therapy sessions, I also offer in person counseling following CDC guidelines, as well as outside walk and talk therapy sessions where we meet at the park and walk and talk for our session while social distancing. This is very popular with teens and adolescents!
As a child and young adult, I grew up in a household with lots of chaos and trauma. From verbal abuse and sometimes physical abuse, to my parents divorcing twice - yes TWICE! Add to that all of the struggles of having to navigate through my teenage years with peer relationships and romantic ones. It could be tough being a teenager with peer pressure to do things that I didn't necessarily feel comfortable doing, not to mention classmates/peers who could be cruel and unforgiving if I refused to do something or if I messed up. I learned at a young age how to be anxious and worried all of the time, as well as how to keep it all inside and hide it from my friends and other family members. I was always so stressed and so on edge and found it difficult to even know the real, genuine me. I had no idea what I liked and disliked - what expectations I had for myself - the person I was or wanted to be. I walked around on eggshells constantly trying to please everyone and not upset anyone. Naturally, this led to anxiety and people pleasing into my adulthood.
I recall wishing as a child and adolescent that I had a therapist or someone that I could talk to that would help me navigate things when I was stressed and confused about what to do, and to talk about all of the things that were happening to me; most of which I was scared and ashamed of. I could have avoided a lot of mistakes and heartbreak if I would have had someone that could have helped me with difficult relationships and taught me how to stand up for myself and be the best authentic version of who I wanted to be - regardless of what others thought or said. Instead, I just held most things in and went on with life and tried not to "rock the boat" so to speak.
As an adult, through my own therapeutic journey, I have developed healthy ways to deal with conflict and low self-esteem, and have discovered ways to manage my anxiety so that I can be the best version of myself. I would love to tell you that I stopped people pleasing entirely and that I only do things for me, but I can't - I'm still a work in progress. I think we all should be! I grow stronger and feel more confident in myself every day. My own journey with therapy led me to devoting my time to helping others who might find themselves in similar situations as I was plagued with growing up. I decided that I wanted to be for others what I wish I had when I was younger. A safe person to talk to. As safe place where I could be my real self.
My mission is to give children and adults a safe space to talk about life's struggles so they can build healthy relationships with themselves and others. Whether it is just being there to listen, being there to encourage, or being there to give you that little extra nudge to push you forward, I want to help you along the way and remind you that you are not alone and that YOU'VE GOT THIS!

Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life and provide you with tools that you will be able to use when you are experiencing a triggering event.

It’s not unusual for people who have experienced traumatic events to have flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories when something terrible happens. PTSD is a serious potentially debilitating condition that can occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a natural disaster, serious accident, terrorist incident, sudden death of a loved one, war, violent personal assault such as rape, or other life-threatening event. Talk therapy is a popular form of treatment for this disorder and has been known to produce biological changes in patients with PTSD and reverse damages to the brain associated with PTSD.
Self-esteem is a big contributor to well-being. Low self-esteem is linked to feelings of shame, self-doubt, and inadequacy. It can prevent people from finding fulfilling relationships or following their dreams.
I can help people recognize and reduce negative self-talk, and also help you with self-compassion and goal-setting, both of which are linked to improved self-esteem.

Children who are suffering from mental health and/or behavioral issues and psychological distress may not share their concerns with their parents. That doesn't happen because your child doesn't love you; rather, it occurs because he/she fears disappointing you. When a child's social and emotional issues and psychological distress are left untreated, it can negatively impact his/her educational aspirations and developmental milestones. Child therapy focuses on young children, teens, and adolescents, and helps them make sense of what is going on in their minds, bodies and lives - in a way that they can understand.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) allows you to heal from difficult experiences without having to relive them over and over again. ART is an eye movement therapy that is different from traditional talk therapy, as in you don't have to talk in detail about what happened. During session, we sit facing one another and I will use my hand to guide you in moving your eyes side to side while asking you to think of your problem in the context of a "scene". You will alternate between playing through your scene in your mind for short periods of time and using eye movements to calm physical sensations and emotions that arise when you think about your problem. As your brain processes through the problem with eye movements, the way you think and feel about the problem begins to shift and will no longer have a negative effect on you.
At this time, I DO NOT ACCEPT INSURANCE, however depending on your insurance, you may be able to get reimbursed for out of network benefits. This is typically available with PPO plans. To find out, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask how much your plan pays for out of network therapists. Another option is that you can use your health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA) to pay for therapy - so you pay nothing out of pocket!
